I am beyond ecstatic about this holiday!! It took me over a month to actually arrange it as we will be flying with our little Boston Terrier puppy, Oscar. For those of you flying to/from the UK with pets you know what a nightmare it is.. BUT I finally figured out the route, and the flights, AND found a place via Airbnb that accepts pets!! We’re off in September for a lovely 2 weeks of pure relaxation! I wanted to go as low down in Spain as possible, without being super far away from the airport because travelling with pets can be a bit of a tricky thing. So islands sadly for us were a no no. I found this studio at Playamar beach in Torremolinos, Malaga, Spain and it was just so perfect. Plus the host was super nice with all my questions and let us take Oscar with us, so for me the hunt was finally over. I finalised the overnight ferry trip with cabins from Harwich to Hook of Holland via Stenaline. Then bought the flights from Iberia from Amsterdam to Malaga direct and phoned up to reserve the spots for Oscar. And have now as well booked a visit to the vet to make sure all his papers are in order to avoid that horrendosity that was the trip through Holland last time
I just can’t believe I’ve actually managed all this!! Really, I can’t. At points it just felt like it was impossible to get to Spain and have a nice holiday with our little boy. Or have a holiday anywhere, besides back at home and in the UK, with our little dog. And I actually managed all of it without breaking the bank! This is all thanks to Airbnb and Alain, our host. This will be my first time using it, so expect a follow up review after the holiday 🙂 The studio we will be staying at has all the amenities that we required (biggest of which was pet friendly) and is a step away from the beach. It even has a pool! Woohoo! I’m so excited I just can’t put it all into words. This holiday is absolutely a neccessity for both my partner and I and I just know I’m going to love staying in Malaga ❤ Less than 4 weeks to go now! AAAHHHHH JUST CAN’T WAIT!!!
P.s. For any of you thinking of travelling to Spain from the UK with your pet don’t hesitate to ask me for the best routes. Believe me, I struggled and did way too much research as usual.
It’s finally come!! Haha! Oscars 5 generation pedigree chart!! And wow all I can say is … wow! Lol! Some of these names can keep me amused for hours. So according to the pedigree Oscars name is Freddies Ripper (we have never chosen that name, but hey-ho its what it is). To us Oscars full pedigree name will forever be Oscar Peanut Louis the 3rd! And my lord even some of his humpty-dumpty ancestors were imported from the states! Imagine getting flown to somewhere just to have sex! Haha 😀 Gotta love the escort Boston Terrier lifestyle 😉 It is now 1000% official, all his papers and documents are in our names. Enjoy the hilarious names everyone! Whats your favourite one? I’m torn between quite a few to be honest ;P
So lots of people have been asking me how we took our dog over from the UK to Finland via flying. To answer a few questions:
1) Yes, we flew.
2) Yes, he came in as hand luggage, which means he just goes under our seat.
3) No, its not expensive. Only 40 euros. and lastly;
4) Yes, it can be a bit complicated with all the paperwork required, etc. Especially on returning to the UK!
That all said he was simply the best traveller! All that early socialisation and getting him used to all sorts of transport really truly paid off! He didn’t mind one bit, not a single peep. He just slept and one looked up for a little scratch. Trip through the airport was easy too and for once I saw the security guys smile and be nice (I think we can all agree on how un-friendly they can be..). It was such a great trip I really didn’t want to start work again and go back to reality! More pics to follow from our little vaca later on 🙂 And if ANYONE has ANY questions on how to fly, etc, with their dog, please feel free to ask! It can really be quite a hassle in the UK if you don’t know what to do. I’m so happy we can travel with our little Boston Terrier 🙂 He’s such a braze good boy! ❤
P.s. Below are pics of Oscar in his SturdiBag! The bag is AMAZING. Finnair only has 20cm of room and this bag really used all the room possible! Oscar didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. If anyone out there is trying to think of a bag to get, I couldn’t recommend the SturdiBag more!! We have the large black version as you can see. It was so flexible, super light, and not that expensive. We paid £44.91 for it from Zooplus! It has tons of ventilation, great zippers that even lock so if you have cats they can’t get out, a soft pad attached with velcro, a comfy carrier strap, and best of all Oscar took to it immediately. The installation was minimal and as you can see form the pics below it fit in the plane just fine. I think Finnair tends to put pets in the middle seat as they are a tad “wider” in the foot space area. And because the SturdiBag smushes when pushed, but retains it shape, it simply becomes flatter, but wider. So our Boston Terrier still had plenty of room. Well, as plenty as a plane will allow 😀 Even us humans are sardines in them.. Anyway, if anyone has any questions about flying like I mentioned before, or about the SturdiBag, then don’t hesitate asking! Us pet lovers gotta stick together! 😛
Sorry for the radio silence everyone! Been on holiday at our Summer House in Finland in Rautalampi.. almost smack in the middle of Finland. So you can probably imagine how little of any source of technology worked there. We are finally back after one of the most gruelling trips back ever (thats for another time, believe you me). I thought I’d share a photo today that just makes me smile and laugh every time I see it! Oscar is slowling growing up, and as usual he was a hit everywhere he went. Here he is running through the house as the happy Boston Terrier puppy that he is 😀 Ah, I do love him, I do! ❤ Thank you Harvey for taking all the wonderful pics!!
This was absolutely hilarious! I didn’t think dogs actually did this!! I just thought it was a Disney thing in 101 Dalmatians. However, I kid you not, Oscar our Boston Terrier puppy sat there and watched TV with me for a good 45 minutes!! I even have a video of it, but am way too lazy at this time of night to post it. I wonder what he found so facisnating. The first thing we watched together today while I ate was a fat man climbing a hill. The second thing was a Grand Designs programme about a couple that bought an immense house in the booneylands of France. Then of course we fell asleep together for 20 mins (watching the shows) and then went out to play fetch, which he recently learned 😀 Does anyone else’s dog watch TV as well? And if so, does he/she have a favourite programme? 😀
Our wee baby Boston Terrier, Oscar, is now officially at that awkward stage where he doesn’t fit an XS harness, but isn’t big enough for a S harness… so what did I do? I bought him a new collar! It’s huge as well, but its so cute and finally makes him look like a boy! Its a leather collar with little bones all over it, so cute! And yes, of course I got him a harness as well 😛 He’ll grow into it 😀 Next thing we need to get him used to is a winter coat, lol!
Another day, sunny, fun, and relaxed! Spent the day with our baby Boston Terrier puppy, Oscar. Got him weighed again (this time with his bag) at Pets at Home in Camden, and in total it was still under 5 kg so I’m sure we should get good to go for our summer trip to Finland. I must say we really got so lucky in the location we chose to live in! Parks everywhere, pet stores, vets, etc. Love it! The big boy is growing so fast he’s already outgrown his first harness! So got him a new one and a new cute collar. Pics to follow soon 😛 Then spent the day lounging under the sun in our park. Such a great Sunday! Do we haaaave to go back to work tomorrow? Do we? I’d love to work for Pets at Home (for their marketing department that is), because then at least I’m sure I could take our Oscar to work with me 😀 Pets at Home.. ya hiring? 😀
I’ve been dying a slow painful death today via hangover.. And finally when I thought my day was saved by pizza and a movie night in… I get locked out of our flat while taking Oscar out for his walk… I asked myself while sweating, shaking, and suffering from heart palpitations “Why God, Whyyyyy?! Why today? Why noooow??”, but Thank heavens for best-friends and spare keys! This is a shout out to all those people out there that have best-friends that are willing to travel through London to let you in to your flat again! Thank you Jaakko for being such a wonderful person and a good friend!! ❤
He’s done it! He’s graduated! Our baby is growing up so fast! He was the only puppy to have known as many tricks as he does. Only puppy to never have peed or pooped in the class! Only puppy to get along with everyone and in general was just the most chilled and beloved 😀 I am so so so proud of our little Boston Terrier, Oscar ❤ First milestone done, but the work doesn’t stop here, still lots to be done! But lets all get together and give the lil guy a high paw!!
Oscar is simply the best traveller. Not a peep from him on the way there and on the way back he just slept between us on the seat 😀 I’m also glad to say the antibiotics did the trick and he is feeling himself again! Thank you again Harvey for letting us bring him! We know how you feel about dogs, so it was very much appreciated! xx
